I entered a contest earlier in the year to submit one hundred word stories. I entered two out of the following stories I wrote. I didn't win mind you, but it was fun to try the challenge of creating a story in one hundred words. I hope you enjoy them and I challenge you to write a one hundred word story! Post it in the comments section! I'd love to read some.
Goosebreak
“They always drink and fight.” She thought to herself. Seeking refuge on the stairs of her home, she hears the wild goose calls as a flock flies in a vee formation overhead.
Her yearning to be with “that family” is so overwhelming. Suddenly her arms are covered in soft white down. Dark feathers slowly cover her from head to toe as she morphs into a wild goose herself. Her joy in knowing she is free from her human family bonds helps her take flight to join her “real” family, the kind that count on each other to live well.

JIffypop sizzle
As the foil starts to swell and the sounds of popping fill my ears, so does the buttery smell of the popcorn fill my nostrils. I noticed the hole on one side of the puffed up foil that my Mom had accidently poked when trying to get the cardboard off the top.
A puffed up popcorn pops out of the hole and onto the counter next to the stove, and my mother “yoinks” it before I can. She pops the freshly puffed up popcorn in her mouth only to hear it sizzle on her tongue. Burned, she spits it out!

The gift of grocery shopping
Whenever mom and dad come home with bags of groceries, the kids help unpack it. Nothing unusual there, except for the fact that it’s almost like unwrapping presents on Christmas morning. The happiness and excitement is tangible as they “ooo” and “ahh” on the snacks, cereals and fruit they get to eat in the coming weeks.
Perhaps it’s because they were poor before or because they just love the food mom and dad choose for them. They are not even finished putting away the groceries before one of them decides to rip open the package of cheese to snack on.

Crunchy Orange Indulgence
My sister makes fun of how I eat my nacho flavoured chips. I peer into my bag and try to find the chip with the most seasoning. When I find one; I grab it, pull it out of the bag, inspect both sides, place it on my tongue, lick one side, turn it around and lick the other side before I crunch down on the corn chip itself. Then I lick all the fingers that still have the artificial cheese powder on them, one by one. My fingertips are stained a nice orange when I am done with my bag.
